Joseph Hyungmin Son, the Austin Powers actor, today was sentenced to life in prison without parole. On August 25th, he was found guilty of a felony count of torture after he was linked to a 1990 gang rape of a then 19-year-old woman in California via DNA evidence. It was Christmas Eve 1990 when the 19-year-old victim, known as Jane Doe in court records, was walking her dog by her apartment complex. She was abducted by Son and Santiago Lopez Gaitan. The two drove the woman to Huntington Beach where she was raped and sodomized at gunpoint, even pistol whipped and was told repeatedly that she was going to die. They eventually let her go, naked, and severely injured. They blindfolded her with her own slacks and somehow she made it to a nearby home where authorities were called. The police did gather evidence from the victim, but sadly, nothing came of the case. Fast forward to 2008, when Son was arrested for vandalism and violated his probation. Last night David and I were invited to the Hollywood premiere of Warrior starring Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton and we had THE best time. I have been looking forward to Warrior for months now, mainly because I’ve become a pretty big Hardy fan. But the more I saw of the film, the more convinced I was that it would be a quality film. I’m happy to say that I was not wrong about that assumption. While there have been many movies about “fighters”, this is the first major film about Mixed Martial Arts fighters and that fact alone made it really interesting for me.

Warrior has a lot of the same plot points of other fighter movies but what sets it apart are the fantastic acting performances by Hardy, Edgerton and Nick Nolte (who plays their estranged father) but also the scarily realistic MMA fight scenes. You get a lot of story in this film but you also get a lot of action. While I personally feel that the story gets muddled down a bit with too much stuff going on, it does regulate itself enough to be throughly enjoyable. Normally, I HATE watching fight scenes … I just don’t get any pleasure from them … but I was so engrossed in this film that the brutality didn’t really bother me much. Warrior has a lot of heart … a lot. You end up rooting for everyone. I was very impressed with this film, I think you might too.

Unfortch, David and I didn’t make it to the afterparty … and therefore, were unable to meet Tom Hardy. David flies out to NYC today so we didn’t’ want to stay out too late. Ah well, I’ll stalk meet Tom some other time.

Tonight, my friend Jen and I are going to see Def Leppard and Heart! I’m so excited!! I sincerely hope YOUR Wednesday is just as awesome :D

"You know, I think I had a lot more rage than I was aware of. But I’ve gotten back access to my other feelings. I’m not cut off from my emotions anymore … The rage has gone away … There’s been a healing.

I had, like, zero estrogen. And since I got some, I’ve been able to function more normally. I’ve stopped being so angry."

Her new outlook on life is also why she calls this stage in her life "a new beginning." Back in 2007, her marriage fell apart when she and Kelli realized they were two different people. Rosie explains that it was "humbling and humiliating ... In the O'Donnell family, no one had ever divorced." As for why the two ended things, Rosie goes on to explain some of their differences:

"She wanted to play tennis at the country club, and I don’t do country clubs. I tried. "They made an exception for a gay family, and we joined. It was a big thing: 'They let in a gay family – whoo!' So I show up to play with her, and somebody comes out and says, 'You can’t play unless you have tennis whites.'"

Yesterday was a somewhat somber day for David and me in NYC but we did our best to try and celebrate the day with David’s dad’s birthday. We spent the whole day with David’s entire immediate family and just walked around the city, being thankful for all that we have to enjoy in life … most especially, one another. But now we’re home now … which is great … but this week will be tricky for me. I’m on jury duty this week … which means I have to be available all week long to report for duty. Thankfully, I did not have to go in today … but I have to check in each night to determine if I have to go in the next day. A bomb went off in Oslo, Norway today, ripping through buildings including the Prime Minister's office.

Horribly, that's not the only incident. Just outside the city, a man dressed as a police officer opened fire at youngsters at a youth camp connected to the ruling party.

It looks like the situations are connected, and sadly it has left at least 7 dead and more injured.

Police Inspector Bjoern Erik Sem-Jacobsen said a suspect in the shooting has been arrested. He said the gunman, who was dressed as a police officer, pulled out a gun and started firing into the crowd of youths. There were unconfirmed reports that five people were wounded in that shooting.

A square in Oslo, where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded, was covered in twisted metal, shattered glass and documents expelled from surrounding buildings, which house government offices and the headquarters of some of Norway's leading newspapers. Most of the windows in the 20-floor high-rise where Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and his administration work were shattered.

The damage in downtown Oslo was the result of "two or more bombs," but there aren't many specifics yet.

The Prime Minister, Jens Stoltenberg, who was working from home today luckily, has urged the country not to be afraid, because this kind of violence strives to strike fear.

We support that thought, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't show caution. Be alert and BE SAFE!

It's just absolutely despicable that things like this happen, and there are humans out there capable of doing it. Absolutely atrocious.
